PM performs Umrah in Mecca

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina performed holy Umrah in Mecca on Monday (6 November) morning. The prime minister along with her younger sister Sheikh Rehana performed Umrah and offered Salah at the holy mosque of Masjid Al Haram. They prayed for the continued peace, prosperity and progress of the Muslim Ummah including Bangladesh and its people.

‘Opposition’s huge presence on streets amid crackdowns puzzles govt’

BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Monday (6 November) alleged that the ruling party leaders are making unguarded remarks as they have become scared by the huge presence of opposition followers on the streets amid widespread arrests and crackdowns. Speaking at a demonstration in the city’s Khilgaon area, he also said the success of their ongoing one-point movement is certain with the support of people.

Two buses set ablaze in Gazipur

Two buses were set on fire on Sunday night and early Monday (6 November) in Gazipur`s Bilaspur and Safipur areas amid the 48-hour road, rail and waterway blockade enforced by the BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami and their allies. A stationary bus of Nirapad Paribahan was set on fire by unidentified miscreants at Bottola of Bilaspur last night, said Rakibul Hasan, inspector of Gazipur Fire Service.

228 BGB platoons deployed across the country

A total of 228 platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed across the country to maintain law and order as the 48-hour countrywide blockade called by the BNP, Jamaat and likeminded opposition parties is underway. Two crude bombs recovered from DU Arts building

Police recovered two crude bombs from a toilet of Dhaka University`s Arts Faculty building on Monday (6 November). A bomb disposal unit of police recovered those from the toilet of 1106 No classroom of Arts building around 10.40 am. Md. Ali Hossen, gateman of the Arts Building, said he noticed those two bomb-like objects around 10 am and immediately informed it to the proctor office.

18 arson incidents reported in 30 hrs till Monday morning

A total of 18 arson incidents were reported across the country from 4 am on Sunday to 10 am on Monday (6 November), Fire Service has said. Of these, 10 arson attacks were reported in Dhaka City Corporations, said Talha Bin Jasim, station officer of Fire Service and Civil Defense media cell on Monday. The fire official said that a total of 14 incidents of arson were reported in Dhaka division, and 4 in Chattogram division.

Govt borrows Tk 31,774 crore from pvt banks in 4 month span

In the first four months of the current financial year, the government`s borrowing from commercial banks has increased by Tk 31,774 crore. However, during this time, the government has repaid nearly the same amount of debt to the Bangladesh Bank (BB). This decision was made to control inflation, according to central bank sources. The BB report reveals that the government`s total bank debt stood at Tk 3,93,714 crore at the end of October, compared to Tk 3,93,778 crore at the end of last June 30.

PM arrives at Madinah to attend Women in Islam conference

Madinah (Saudi Arabia), Nov 05 (UNB) - Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday (5 November) arrived here on a three-day visit to Saudi Arabia to attend the international conference on `Women in Islam: Status and Empowerment` to be held in Jeddah. A commercial flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, carrying the PM and her entourage landed at Prince Mohammad Bin Abdul Aziz International Airport in Madina at 1.10 pm local time (Bangladesh time 4.10 pm).
