BNP to enforce 48-hour countrywide blockade from Sunday
Pausing its protest for two days, the BNP will again enforce a 48-hour countrywide road-rail-waterway blockade beginning from Sunday (5 November) to mount pressure on the Awami League government to quit power and hold the next election under a non-partisan administration. BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced the programme at a virtual press briefing on Thursday (2 November) evening.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday (2 November) urged the country`s journalists to expose the real face of the BNP before the international community as the opposition party`s activists swooped on the media persons covering their October 28 rally. "You, journalists, should expose internationally the real character of those who attacked you while performing duty," she said.

Hasina a ‘global star’ for empowering women : Momen
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to visit the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) from November 5 to attend the International Conference on Women in Islam which will be held in Jeddah. The Kingdom in coordination with the general secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) will host the conference on November 6-8. The prime minister will travel to Madina by a commercial flight from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on November 5, said Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen.

Hajj expenses for 2024 to be Tk 92,450 cheaper
On Thursday (2 November), the government has announced the Hajj packages for 2024, reducing the cost by Tk 92,450. State Minister for Religious Affairs, Md Faridul Haque Khan, announced the Hajj packages at a press briefing held at the Secretariat. Pilgrims have to pay Tk 5,78,840 under general package, and Tk 9,36,320 under special package.

LPG price hiked once again, customers under more pressure
Customers, already struggling with rising cost of living, will have to pay an additional Tk 1.48 per kg to buy Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) from 6 pm on Thursday (2 November). Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) announced the new price, saying that the retail consumers will now get a 12kg LPG cylinder at Tk 1,381 including VAT instead of the previous price of Tk 1363.

Biden calls for humanitarian ‘pause’ in Israel-Hamas war
President Joe Biden said he thought there should be a humanitarian “pause” in the Israel-Hamas war, after his campaign speech Wednesday evening was interrupted by a protester calling for a cease-fire. I think we need a pause, Biden said.The call was a subtle departure for Biden and top White House aides, who throughout the Mideast crisis have been steadfast in stating they will not dictate how the Israelis carry out their military operations in response to the Oct. 7 attack by Hamas.
